Give me some sugar, Sugar
One woman’s attempt to kick sugar, with a side of salad—and a sprinkle of spicy curiosity.
I have lived on this planet for close to 7 decades and I am only now realizing just how addictive sugar is. Yup, I’m a slow learner or late bloomer. Or an idiot - can’t quite figure it out.
So, about a month ago I stopped eating all manner of sweets and basically junk food in general. I know it’s so addictive so I thought I’d go cold turkey. I’m not a happy person when I’m deprived of my sugar. Just letting you know up front in case I run into any of you on the street and I’m looking like a lunatic who just got out of an asylum. (Was that just politically incorrect? Oh gee I hope not.)
But here’s the kicker - after about a week, I was feeling much better. So much so, that…guess what I did? Go ahead, try and guess. If you guessed that I had a piece of chocolate you’d be right! Imagine! I thought that if I just had a little bit of chocolate, it wouldn’t hurt. WTF - how many times do I have to be on this merry-go-round before I realize - I’m a sugar addict.
I didn’t go all crazy that day. But the next day, I fooled myself into thinking - well that went pretty well, I think I’ll just have a bit of chocolate today too because clearly I can handle it. Did you ever hear such nonsense??
Anyway, as the days wore on I began to eat more and more chocolate and junk.
When will I realize that I’m a sugar addict. I wonder if it’s the same for alcoholics and gamblers and what about sex addicts? Ok, I don’t know what you all think about sex addicts but do you really think it's a thing? I wouldn’t mind giving it a go! How does one sign up to be a sex addict? I know how you sign up to be a sugar addict - just walk into any store and buy some sweetness. Where would I have to go to become a sex addict? Any advice?
Susan Tate, my sister-in-law, sent me this wildly interesting video about sugar. There are no benefits to sugar and processed food. None. Not one benefit. In this video by Dr. Pelz https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=994103102411167&rdid=TnMQ14Zkpk6kgawI she says that there is ‘no worthy exchange’ for eating sugar/processed foods. Hmmm that’s an interesting way of saying it. I wonder if this will spur me on to kicking my sugar addiction.
But here's the twist—I love my salads, vegetables and fruits. So what's my problem?
Anyway, back to the sex addict thing - it’s much more interesting than the sugar thing. I wonder how one becomes a sex addict? I’ll bet you a beer you can’t say that there’s no worthy exchange on this addiction!
Today is a new day (well everyday is a new day) but today is the one - the one and only day that matters. Because today I am kicking my sugar addiction in favour of the sex addiction thingee! Ooops did I just say that last part out loud? Ok forget you heard that part. Let's just move on to my kicking my sugar addiction. Wish me luck!!
