Let me introduce you to two very important people in my life—both of whom show up often in my stories.
When I first started writing, I assumed everyone already knew who they were. But now that I’ve opened up my blog to new readers (aka lovely strangers), it feels right to give a bit of background on who’s who.
Brenda is the first person I’d like you to meet. She’s my twin sister. Sadly, she passed away from cancer in 2022.
She retired at the end of 2020 and was excited to have more time for her passion—genealogy.
What’s that expression? We plan, God laughs.
It’s tough losing the person you’ve known your entire life—literally from inception. That’s a long time.
I’ve written many stories about Brenda, and they’re gathered in the category: WE is now ME.
Last, but by no means least, is my husband, Barry.
We got married at the end of 1996, at the tender age of 41. I never had children of my own, but I was lucky enough to inherit a stepdaughter—and now we’ve been blessed with two grandchildren. How lucky am I?
Unfortunately, Barry was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer in late 2016.
His cancer was largely kept in check for about seven years with medication.
However, it has now spread to his bones. This is not good.
It is incurable. Any treatments going forward are meant to (hopefully) slow its progress.
Barry is a very private person, and he doesn’t really want to talk about it—but we’ve come to an understanding.
I like to write—
No, check that—
I love to write—
Nope, check that too—
I need to write.
And since Barry is such a big part of my life, there will be stories where he is either front and center or part of the fabric of the telling.
Now that you’ve met the two main characters who will show up in many of my stories, things should start to make more sense.
